At Orange Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc., in Orange, California, we regularly conduct OB/GYN ultrasounds for women of all ages, including expecting mothers. GYN screenings of specific areas of concern are available without a doctor’s order. These can be booked directly, however, a doctor's order is required for a complete diagnostic study. OB/GYN Ultrasound Q&A

What is an OB/GYN ultrasound?

An OB/GYN ultrasound is an imaging procedure that uses soundwaves to produce images that your technologist will send to our on-staff radiologist.  An OB/GYN ultrasound provides detailed, 2D and 3D images of your reproductive organs, including your bladder, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and cervix.

OB/GYN ultrasound is also used to confirm and monitor pregnancy. The procedure is painless and completely non-invasive, making it safe for both mother and baby.

What types of problems can an OB/GYN ultrasound detect?

OB/GYN ultrasounds are incredibly versatile. At Orange Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc., we regularly use them to image:

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Uterine cysts
  • Tumors
  • Fibroids
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pregnancy
  • Pregnancy Dating

Although OB/GYN ultrasounds have a proven track record of success, additional testing may be necessary if your bones or internal organs prevent us from taking highly detailed images.

What is the process for receiving an OB/GYN ultrasound?

At Orange Diagnostic Ultrasound, Inc., we conduct OB/GYN ultrasounds on-site in our welcoming facility.

Once you lie down on our exam table, your technologist gently applies a warm, water-based gel to your lower belly and pelvic area. The gel helps the handheld transducer glide smoothly over your skin.

After applying the gel, your technologist moves the transducer back and forth. The transducer emits soundwaves that bounce off your internal organs to create 2D and 3D images. Your technologist can view the images in real-time to diagnose specific problems.

How long does an OB/GYN ultrasound take?

The length of your OB/GYN ultrasound depends on the symptoms you’re experiencing and what your technologist is looking for. Most appointments last 20-60 minutes.

When will I receive the results of my OB/GYN ultrasound?

Following your OB/GYN ultrasound, we give your results to the radiologist. The radiologist reviews the images taken during your appointment and sends a comprehensive report to your primary care physician if it was a diagnostic study. If the study was a screening scan then the report will go directly to you via mail or pick up.
